I had some trouble setting this one up. I was at Vasquez Rocks on the outskirts of LA, and my rigging, which is essentially some metal screws, doesn't go into rock, so I had to move to the back of the park where there was a field of dirt to finally get the screws into the ground.
I was feeling a lot of love with this #OffLocation, thinking of the poem the inaugural poet, Amanda Gorman, recited on Wednesday at the Capitol. It gave me so much hope, which is something I haven't felt in awhile concerning this country. I love how words can do that.
I've always loved poetry, and Amanda reminded me of that. I even have a tattoo on my shoulder that says "Use Poetry," which is part of a line from Jack Kerouac's book On The Road.
Since I was feeling love, I wanted to make a simple painting showing that feeling. I always sign my letters with X's and O's, (yes, I still write letters) so even though this was a simple painting, it's my favorite #OffLocation piece so far. Probably because it's the first one that feels personal.
Thanks for checking out my work and supporting my #OffLocation project. If you'd like to help me accomplish these weekly projects with a donation that goes directly toward my trips to art supplies, it would mean so much to me. You can do so by tapping on the donate button at the top of this page. Thanks for being a fan.
Thanks for your interest in my work!
